Headaches, Migraines and Me

I've had chronic headaches and migraines since I was a teen or possibly even from childhood. With the stress and anxiety I have dealt with since childhood, maybe it goes hand in hand a bit. That idea honestly did not occur to me until recent years, but as I get older I feel like I am better at piecing things together and seeing a more holistic view of myself and my life.

Over the past years, I have seen a series of doctors, neurologists, a handful of chiropractors and even a psychiatrist for help with my neurological issues and chronic pain. I wanted to share a post a bit about some things that have helped me in the hope that they may help others as well. Of course everyone is different and you will need to look at yourself in a holistic manner to truly get to the root of chronic pain issues and the things that work for me may not work for you. However, I hope that you can get some hope and relief from my experience in some way. I have had intractable migraines in the past, but now I know that I can use my migraine toolkit to help and that there is an end in sight. That alone will alleviate some of the anxiety I had around my chronic pain and the stress it caused me.

The #1 thing that helped my migraines the most was my custom Theraspecs glasses. There are from http://theraspecs.com These tinted glasses are customized to your needs. You can use one of their frames or get your own and send it to the company to have the lens added. I chose a super cute frame from https://tijneyewear.com/ and ordered it. Then, I sent it to Theraspecs and uploaded my prescription into the online order. You can also get these without a prescriptive lens if you do not normally wear glasses. I think they also have some you can wear over other glasses, but that sounds too bulky and uncomfortable. I really wanted my glasses to have the prescription and tint in one pair. I'm glad they make that possible. You can also add on anti-glare and things like that just like any prescription glasses you order. The tint in the glasses is called FL-41 and that is what helps with headaches and migraines. This will only help if you have light sensitivity as a trigger like I do. You can wear tinted glasses all the time like I do or only when you have a headache or migraine. Your choice of course.

Another thing that has really helped my headaches and migraines is eating more superfoods and using plant based supplements or nutrition. I don't know of any specific food triggers, but eating healthier food and trying to get all of my vitamins in really does help. Any type of mint is good for helping headaches as well as ginger. Foods or supplements that reduce inflammation may help as well as certain vitamins or minerals such as Magnesium are known to be beneficial. I use the magnesium cream (most pills give me stomach aches) and elderberry elixir (rich in vitamin C and anti-inflammatory herbs and immune boosting) from https://www.earthley.com/ref/Autumnrainbow/ . I'm also trying out the Nourish Her Naturally and it is going great. Getting my nutrition on track and keeping hydrated absolutely helps me.

Another favorite thing I use if I do get a migraine or bad headache is this amazing ice roller ! These are so inexpensive and small enough to throw in the cooler on trips and picnics too ! When, I was looking for this one like mine I found this other thing which is basically an ice mold to use real ice instead and great a facial roller type thing. Check it out here. I think it is really cool. Wishlist !!

Last, I recommend checking out an online doctor like Cove. I love this service, because I can easily get prescriptions for my condition from my computer at home. Super easy ! I use nurtec and it is truly the only prescription that has ever helped my migraines. Beyond these treatments, reducing stress really helps with preventing migraines and headaches to me. In my next blog, I will talk about my life struggle with stress and anxiety and how I have reduced those as well.

I hope this helps you and please let me know if you have any questions or learned something new from this post . Migraines do not have to rule your life !
